Shelby Engineering considers the health and safety of our staff to be the foremost concern on any job site, in our vehicles, our materials laboratory and in the office.

We maintain a health and safety program which is regularly reviewed and updated, with our goal being to eliminate injuries and near-miss incidents. Our program has been awarded a Certificate or Recognition (COR) by the Alberta Government. Shelby is also an associate member of the Alberta Construction Safety Association.

Our staff are required to complete a field level hazard assessment prior to undertaking any field testing or inspections on a project site, and are instructed to refuse any unsafe work until acceptable means for managing the unsafe condition is implemented.

Our everyday work-related tasks have associated safe work practices and safe job procedures to ensure our staff are properly trained and knowledgeable so that they can safely undertake their assigned tasks.

Our staff maintains up-to-date training on standard and emergency first aid, fire extinguisher use, WHMIS, TDG, OSSA Fall Protection, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance Level II and Traffic Flagging. All new employees are required to successfully complete CSTS-09 (Construction Safety Training System) training prior to commencing with any lab or field related tasks.

To reinforce our commitment to safety, key senior personnel have successfully completed the “Leadership for Safety Excellence” training offered by the Alberta Construction Safety Association.
