Radon Testing and Mitigation

Radon (an invisible and odourless radioactive gas) is created naturally in the environment by the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. It is recognized as the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada.

The Canadian Cancer Society recommends that all buildings be tested for radon, and for owners to take action to reduce concentrations if radon levels are above the maximum exposure recommended by Health Canada. They recommend the owner work with a Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP) Certified Professional to lower the levels in the building.

Shelby has C-NRPP Certified Mitigation Professionals on staff capable of testing existing buildings for the presence of radon, and providing mitigation options if test results are higher than Health Canada standards.

For new construction, our certified staff can provide conceptual design for radon mitigation rough-in systems consistent with building code requirements and can conduct follow-up inspection for general compliance.

We can also conduct diagnostic tests to assess the effectiveness of existing radon rough-in systems.
